So, in simple words: what are domain and hosting, and what are they for?
The domain name of the site
A domain is the name of the site.
The domain name of my blog is ellytvynova.com.
Google.com, Facebook.com, womo.com.ua, adme.ru - these are all domain names.
A domain name has two components.
The first is the name of the site, which you can choose to your liking. There are some restrictions when choosing domain names, but in general, here you have complete freedom of action.
I myself chose the name ''available-admission'' for this blog - this is how I shorten my first and last name, and under the same name, you can find me on social networks.
But the domain name does not have to be someone's name or the name of the company. It can be a set of letters or numbers (123rf.com), an abbreviation (imdb.com), other arbitrary names (shutterstock.com).
The second part of the domain name is the so-called domain zone. Here our choice is already limited - we do not invent anything, but choose a domain zone from the available ones.
The most popular domain zones are .com, .net, .org, .info - international domains.
Regional domains can look like this - .com.ua, .ru, .in.ua, .pl, .ca and so on, up to the designation in the domain name of the city, for example, if you have a business with a clear regional reference to Kiev, you can select the zone .kiev.ua.
Domains that reflect the essence of the site are also widespread, the so-called thematic domains - .club, .travel, .biz.
A unique domain name for the site is formed by combining your chosen name and domain zone.

Hosting
The site name alone will not be enough for its full-fledged work. We also need hosting.
Each site, if you do not go into technical details, is a collection of files.
Hosting is the place on the server where your site is physically located. Companies that run such servers (very powerful computers) are called hosting providers.
As soon as the site is hosted, it becomes available for viewing by anyone on the network.
The hosting service includes leasing to anyone a small (or large, depending on the amount and volume of data on your sites) fragment on the server for a fee.
Domain and hosting are essential components of any website.
