A question that every novice webmaster has to overcome. Strictly speaking, the whole discussion on this topic boils down to two points of view. Either we make a site on a commercially promising, but uninteresting topic for us, or on the topic of our hobby, regardless of its potential monetization.
Money themes
Traditionally, the most attractive topics for making money on the site are the topics of loans, construction, plastic surgery - that is, those topics in which a sufficient amount of money rotates in real life. Advertising is more expensive here, so such topics attract many moneymakers.
Thousands of sites are fighting for a spot in the SERPs in these niches, trying to grab a piece of the pie for themselves.
A well-promoted website on the topic of finance will bring good money to its owner. But in order to promote it, it will take a lot of time, knowledge and skills, as well as money.
That is why I do not advise beginners to immediately climb where monsters with experience and budgets for creating content are already sitting tightly (someone should write competent articles on a given topic?) And its promotion (the higher the competition, the higher the costs, to hit the top).
Even if you have a decent amount on hand, which you are ready to give for the creation and promotion of such a site, you still need minimal experience to understand how it all works. Otherwise, you risk simply losing money by running into low-quality or unscrupulous performers.
Wasted money, time and complete disappointment in the very idea of making money online - that's what usually awaits a beginner in a competitive field.
Topics to your liking
If you have just come to the Internet and are ready to create your first website for making money, start by working on those topics that are of interest to you personally. The following sites can be made on any topic, because you will already know this whole kitchen from the inside.
And while yoga or growing violets may not seem so attractive in terms of financial returns, there are still advertisers willing to pay to promote their product or service.
In a topic that you like, you probably know as well as any expert. If desired, you can create content (articles, videos, infographics) yourself. Or, critically evaluate hired copywriters.
And finally, the third and perhaps the most important point. Motivation. Online business lives by the same laws as an ordinary business in real life. There is no need to expect an instant return "right tomorrow". Any business requires investment and time. And if initially the topic is completely uninteresting, it is very difficult to withstand the marathon from the first steps to getting the slightest significant result.
With a website on a theme that inspires in itself, it's much easier.
My first site was (and is, it still makes me money) about dogs. I really love dogs, I have my own pets, plus I try to help animals that are less fortunate. I have a story to tell on this topic. I enjoy writing about dog breeds, the intricacies of their upbringing, sharing tips about feeding and other usefulness.
This is what kept me "afloat" during the period when the site did not bring anything at all. I wonder if I could have held out without any recoil if I had to write about excavators or mortgages? I think everything would have ended according to the scenario that I described above.
So, the first step in choosing a theme for your site is to sit down at the table with a notebook in hand and write down all the topics that interest you in order to choose one of them, on which your first site will be created.
Of course, this is a simplified diagram. In the topic, you will still need to find a niche of the site, but we will talk about this later.
